Seattle Architect Identifies New Business Opportunity From his own Clients Seattle Architect starts a new business custom engraving light switch plates to solve the age old problem of identifying the function of each switch
Seattle, Washington, January 12, 2007 — While working with many of his clients over the years, Nazim Nice, a Seattle architect and owner of Motionspace Architecture + Design, observed that many of them had difficulty remembering what all the light switches in their home or business operated. “Over the years our electrical plans have become more and more complex. Take the typical master bathroom today: you have vanity lights, recessed can lights, a bathroom fan, a tub light, a shower light, and maybe a separate toilet room with another fan. Not that long ago you had a switch for the light and a window to open for ventilation. Today’s buildings are much more complex,” says Nice.
Nice thought there must be a better way of labeling switches without resorting to stick on labels, tape, or a permanent marker. That’s when he began researching ways to permanently label switch plates. After much research, he identified the equipment that could produce the product. “We wanted to create a durable and classy looking product that people would be proud to install in their homes and businesses,” says Nice.
The need for switch plate labels is not only limited to labeling lights. “We’re also seeing the need for people to label other devices being added to homes and businesses. Timers, sound system volume controls, motorized window shades, and projection screens all can be labeled to help users identify their function,” says Nice.
Businesses can also benefit from this product by saving energy. “Many times when working in an office, people are reluctant to turn off lights fearing they may turn off lights where others are still working. Lumen ID helps users know which lights to turn off, so saving energy is easier. We’ve even had customers use the Headline™ style of engraving, and engrave the words ‘Turn lights off when not in use’,” says Nice. This can be a gentle reminder to staff that turning off the lights can save energy.
