Lumen ID was envisioned in 2005 and developed in 2006 by
Architect, Nazim Nice, who is also the Principal Architect of Motionspace
Architecture + Design PLLC of Seattle, Washington. While working with many
of his clients over the years, Nazim observed that many of them had difficulty
remembering what all the switches in their home or business operated. With today's
buildings becoming increasingly more complex, Nazim realized there must be a
better way of labeling switches without resorting to tape or a permanent marker.
Almost two years later, after developing several unique engraving
styles for the complex variety of wallplates available, and developing an easy
to use online ordering system, Lumen ID has become a reality. We offer this
product to our clients at Motionspace
Architecture + Design PLLC and we are thrilled to be able to offer this
product to you!

Nazim Nice NCARB LEED AP
Owner and Founder of Lumen ID, LLC
Born in Bromley, England and raised in Seattle, Washington, Nazim Nice has always had a keen interest in design. After attending Carnegie Mellon’s School of Architecture and graduating as Salutatorian, he moved to Columbus, Ohio to start his career at NBBJ, a large architecture practice where he specialized in the design of healthcare facilities. While living in Columbus, he also taught at the Knowlton School of Architecture at the Ohio State University and lectured at Carnegie Mellon University. During his education and career, he has been the recipient of many awards including the AIA Certificate of Merit and the Stewart L. Brown Award, and he is an Andrew Carnegie Scholar.
After returning to Seattle in 2000 and practicing with several local architecture firms, Nazim became a licensed architect in the State of Washington and founded his own multidisciplinary design firm: Motionspace Architecture + Design, a design firm with a focus on residential and small commercial architecture, but also furniture, product, graphic and web design.

With today's buildings becoming increasingly more complex, Nazim realized there must be a better way of labeling switches without resorting to tape or a permanent marker.
In 2006, Nazim Nice founded Lumen ID, LLC and after almost a year of development, it became his first mass marketed building product. While Lumen ID’s custom engraved switch plates solves a problem identified in his architecture practice, it also combines his interest in graphic and web design, into one product.

Lumen ID is the nation’s first comprehensive online seller of custom engraved switch plates.
Engraved switch plates help people quickly identify the function of each switch. This is helpful whenever switches are ganged together or when a switch is located remotely from its function (such as exterior flood lights or landscape lights, pool lights, etc).
Over 650 different switchplates offered for engraving. Our switchplates are from major manufacturers such as Leviton® and Lutron®.
6 engraving styles:
Simplicity™ : our most popular style which is simple 1/8” text located at the top of the switchplate
Borderline™ : same text as the Simplicity™ style, but bounded by a thin box to give the plate ‘architectural’ detail
Easyread™ : This is our largest text option. The 1/4” text is positioned vertically adjacent to each switch with an engraved box that helps associate the text with the correct switch
Headline™ : This style incorporates a large 1/4” font spanning the top of the switch plate with 1/8” text labels under each switch location
Doubletext™ : This style has 1/8” text located at the top and bottom of each switch, which allows for the labeling of Decora
Double-stacked switches, or if additional text is desired at a switch location
Tripletext™ : This style has 1/8” text located at the top, bottom, and side of each switch. It is specifically developed for Decora Triple-stacked switches
